I am an English-born, Australian translator of Chinese language. For seven of the past ten years I have lived in Chinese-speaking countries, first teaching English, then studying Chinese and finally conducting anthropological fieldwork. I have a great fondness for Chinese people, Chinese language and, inevitably, Chinese food, and consider it a privilege to be able to work in this field.

In 2008 I earned a PhD in anthropology from the Australian National University for my thesis entitled "Tending the Eternal Tomb: Manchu Identity after Empire". The result of eighteen months intensive fieldwork in Changchun, Shenyang and rural Liaoning, this 80,000 word thesis required the translation of hundreds of Chinese documents written in both simplified and traditional scripts.

For three years I have worked as a part-time translator and editor to supplement my scholarship. In March, 2006, I translated a large government tender for the electronic integration of public transport ticketing in Kaoxiong City, a project which involved the translation of terminology from transport, banking and IT sectors. I am regularly consulted by native Chinese translators and have recently translated texts as diverse as engineering research papers, business contracts, advertorials, computer games and handwritten customer feedback forms.

I look forward to working with you soon.
